As a Supply Chain Engineer at SMIT Thermal Solutions you play a central role in a fast paced, technological driven and multidisciplinary environment. You are responsible for implementing SMIT’s overall supply chain strategy and operations in order to bring our machines to market with the best quality, delivery time, technology and cost structure. In addition you have a crucial role in developing and maintaining good relationships with suppliers and system integrators.

To be successful in this challenging environment, you also have:

  • minimum Bachelor degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or Engineering;
  • experience in Mechatronics;
  • affinity with technology;
  • > 5 year experience in an OEM/project environment;
  • no problem with traveling up to 30% of the time. This could include international travels.


In this role you have the opportunity to:

  • represent the supply chain department within the organization, ensuring early involvement of suppliers;
  • contribute to- and implement the overall supply chain strategy;
  • in- and/or outsource complete modules (at system integrators);
  • execute and support the in/outsourcing process (e.g. knowledge transfer, supplier ramp-up);
  • drive cost down activities - you identify cost reduction opportunities via implementing new strategies, challenging design specifications and continuous improvements. This includes value engineering (driving of saving opportunities in close cooperation with BDM, Quality, Engineering and suppliers).
  • ensure procurement related risks (costs, quality and availability) are controlled and mitigated by bringing the relevant stakeholders to the table;
  • involve suppliers early in projects to ensure that technology and expertise is merged in the best way;
  • play a pivotal role in the supplier allocation; select suppliers/ system integrators for projects;
  • execute the RFQ process;
  • negotiate contracts (within set limits) and ensure a reliable delivery;
  • follow up on complete supply chain process;
  • manage supplier relations locally and internationally (Europe and China);
  • actively participate in multidisciplinary team;
  • integrate technical knowledge with business acumen.

Skills and experience

  • You understand costs drivers and the power of standardization;
  • You have experience with interacting with different teams;
  • You are passionate about driving change;
  • You have experience in initiating and driving cost down projects;
  • Ability to analyse BOM and technical specifications to understand key requirements;
  • Knowledge and experience in negotiating (long term) contracts;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English are required;
  • Verbal and written communication skills in Chinese are a plus.
