Junior Financial Controller

Currently, we are looking for a Junior Financial Controller to support our Finance Department and join the SMIT
family. You play a role in a fast paced, technology driven, dynamic, multidisciplinary and international company.
As a Junior Financial Controller at Smit Netherlands, you are part of the Finance team. You will report directly to
the Finance Manager and work within the financial controlling and reporting team and closely with the financial
operation team. You are a team player who is both proactive and cooperative, and you are also able to work
independently.
Your main focus will be the cost side of the P&L, such as project and general costs. As a Junior Financial Controller,
you ensure these costs' completeness and accuracy and prepare analyses for the Finance team. You are
responsible for performing and documenting the controls within these financial processes to keep our partners
and suppliers happy, by ensuring our financial data can be used for informed decision-making. You will also have
the opportunity to implement process improvements to make our processes more scalable and awesome!

Activities and key responsibilities

  • Overseeing the internal financial control;
  • Produce monthly management account and VAT returns;
  • Perform cost analysis and support cash flow management;
  • Support purchase to pay process and ensure quality, accuracy, and integrity of information in systems;
  • Support financial and accounting processes; prepare the monthly closing;
  • Prepare financial reports and draft the annual budget;
  • Update financial data in ERP Review bank and credit card statements;
  • Review employee timesheets;
  • Control of the debtors and creditors list;
  • Compute estimated VAT monthly and make payments;
  • Control and renew the cash flow forecast;
  • Assist full-year financial statements, audits and budgets;
  • Comply with financial payment procedures and be able to handle bank affairs;
  • Assist in tax declaration procedures;
  • Perform other financial support according to financial department’s requirement.

Profile and skills

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or a related discipline;
  • 1-3 years relevant working experience in Financial Accounting/Reporting;
  • A proven track record in accounting, financial analysis, and preparation of financial reports;
  • Ability to work with large datasets, Excel/Google Sheets pro;
  • Preferably have experience with Account View, Trimergo and/or other financial systems/ERP systems;
  • Experience in process improvement is a plus;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with different departments and stakeholders;
  • An analytical and critical mindset with the ability to quickly adapt to change;
  • A fast-learning, ambitious, and open mindset with a flexible mentality;
  • Accurate and high attention to details and excellent time management skills;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English;
  • Excel, Word and PowerPoint knowledge.
